i am afraid that when the time comes,
when i am finally able to memorize all these subway stops,
when i understand which way north is in this city,
when i know the direction that this bus goes;
i will forget the direction that your brows furrow when you are upset,
the direction the hair on your arm grows,
and the direction you anxiously smooth the creases on your shirt.
